You play as Li Xiaoyao, a young man whose life changes after meeting the mysterious Zhao Ling'er. The core gameplay involves exploring towns, dungeons, and the overworld map, talking to non-player characters to advance the story, and engaging in turn-based combat. In battles, you select commands from a menu for each character in your party, choosing to attack, use special magical skills, or deploy items. Managing your party's health and magical power (known as 'Qi') is essential for survival. A key beginner strategy is to thoroughly explore each area and speak with every character, as many quests and essential items are easy to miss. The challenge rhythm is paced by the narrative, with dungeon exploration and boss fights serving as major obstacles. Early on, focus on learning the combat system and building your character's levels. As the story progresses, you will need to master the use of powerful magical spells and coordinate your party's abilities to overcome increasingly difficult enemies and intricate puzzle-filled dungeons.
