In Rockman EXE WS, you control MegaMan.EXE as he explores the internet and battles viruses in real-time grid combat. The game is played on a 3x3 grid split between your side and the enemy's. You can move MegaMan.EXE one square at a time to dodge attacks while charging your Mega Buster. The core of gameplay involves using Battle Chips, which are powerful attack or support programs you select before each fight. To succeed, manage your movement to avoid enemy projectiles and line up your own shots. A key strategy is to use the terrain; some panels may be broken or have special properties. In tense moments, focus on using area-of-effect chips when viruses are grouped together or shield chips to block powerful attacks. The challenge rhythm involves navigating network areas, solving simple puzzles to progress, and engaging in frequent, fast-paced battles to collect new chips and zenny.
