In 3Xtreme, your goal is to win races across various extreme sports like in-line skating, downhill biking, and street luge. You control your athlete from a third-person perspective, racing against aggressive opponents on twisting urban and mountain courses. The core gameplay involves maintaining high speed while navigating sharp turns, performing tricks off ramps for speed boosts, and using shoulder buttons to shove rivals off the course. A successful strategy is to learn the track layout to anticipate turns and strategically use your limited boost energy, which refills by performing tricks. Early in a race, focus on surviving the initial pack chaos and finding a clean racing line. As you progress, concentrate on linking tricks together to maintain momentum and using aggressive tactics to disrupt opponents when you are in a position to overtake. The challenge intensifies in the final laps, where precise cornering and well-timed boosts are crucial for securing victory.
