Othello is a two-player strategy game played on an 8x8 grid. Players take turns placing discs with their color facing up, with the goal of having the majority of discs display their color when the board is full. Each new disc must be placed so that it forms a straight line (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) between another disc of your color, with one or more of your opponent's discs in between. These opponent discs are then flipped to become your color. The key strategy is to control the corners and edges of the board, as discs in these positions are harder for your opponent to flip. Beginners should focus on minimizing their opponent's mobility by limiting their valid moves while maximizing their own options. Avoid placing discs adjacent to corners early in the game, as this often gives your opponent the corner advantage. In the Flash version, you'll typically click on valid squares to place your discs, with the game automatically flipping the captured pieces.
