Your early game should focus on rapid expansion by founding new cities in resource-rich locations and building a small defensive military. The middle game involves specializing your cities for science, production, or wealth, forming alliances or waging wars with rival civilizations, and carefully managing your economy and happiness. Tense moments occur when a rival declares war or a critical wonder is nearly completed by an opponent. A key strategy is to prioritize technologies that unlock powerful government types and military units, and to always keep a balanced army to defend your borders.
