Your goal is to guide Billy or Jimmy Lee through a series of urban stages, defeating waves of enemies using punches, kicks, and special moves. Movement is controlled with a joystick, while buttons are used for attacking and jumping. A key technique is the ability to grab enemies after punching them, allowing you to knee them, throw them, or perform a powerful backwards throw. You can also execute a spinning kick by jumping and kicking, which is effective against multiple foes. In two-player mode, you can cooperate with a friend, but be careful not to accidentally hit each other. The game features platforming sections where mistimed jumps can lead to instant death. Focus on learning enemy patterns, using throws to control crowds, and conserving health for the challenging boss fights at the end of each stage. Later levels introduce weapons like knives and dynamite that can be picked up and used against your enemies.
