In Jackal, you control a heavily armed jeep with the goal of infiltrating enemy bases to rescue prisoners of war. Your jeep can move in eight directions and fire a machine gun forward. You can also launch grenades in the direction you are facing to destroy bunkers and enemy vehicles. Driving over POWs automatically picks them up; you then must bring them to a waiting helicopter at the top or bottom of the screen to score points and increase your firepower. The game is structured in a series of interconnected screens that scroll vertically and horizontally as you explore the battlefield. Early on, focus on learning the enemy patrol patterns and destroying bunkers to clear a safe path. As you progress, the challenge increases with more aggressive tanks, helicopters, and fortified positions. In tense moments, use hit-and-run tactics, retreating to safer areas to avoid being overwhelmed while prioritizing rescues to upgrade your weapons for the tougher bosses.
