Double Dragon V is a one-on-one fighting game where the objective is to defeat your opponent in a best-of-three rounds match. You control your chosen character from a side-view perspective, using a combination of basic attacks, special moves, and throws to deplete the opponent's life bar. The moment-to-moment play involves moving back and forth to control space, blocking incoming attacks, and looking for openings to land your own combos. A useful beginner strategy is to master a few simple, reliable special moves for each character rather than trying to learn complex combinations immediately. The challenge rhythm is defined by the round structure; you must win two rounds to claim the match. In the early moments of a fight, focus on understanding your opponent's patterns and testing their defenses with quick, safe attacks. During the middle of the match, capitalize on mistakes by landing your most damaging combos. In tense moments when life bars are low, careful defense and well-timed counterattacks become crucial for securing victory.
