In Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad, your primary objective is to guide your chosen soldier through stages filled with enemy troops, vehicles, and bosses while rescuing hostages for extra points and lives. The game is played from an overhead perspective, and you move your character with the joystick while firing your weapon automatically in the direction you are facing. You can switch between three different formation styles—Lone Wolf, Team Attack, and Team Surround—to adjust your firing pattern and mobility. Use bombs to clear the screen of enemies when you are overwhelmed, and collect power-ups to upgrade your main weapon. A key strategy is to keep moving to avoid enemy fire, use cover when possible, and prioritize rescuing hostages to build up extra lives for the challenging boss fights. In the early stages, focus on learning enemy patterns and maximizing your firepower. During tense moments, such as boss encounters, constantly strafe around the arena while firing and save your bombs for when you are cornered or need to deal massive damage quickly.
