In Diablo, your objective is to explore the multi-level dungeon beneath Tristram Cathedral, defeating monsters and bosses to ultimately confront Diablo. You control your character from an overhead perspective, moving with the directional pad and attacking with the X button. Different face buttons are used for casting spells, using items, and interacting with the environment. The core gameplay loop involves clearing rooms of enemies, managing your health and mana potions, and collecting gold and better equipment from chests and defeated foes. A key early strategy is to carefully manage your resources, retreating to town to heal and sell loot when necessary. As you progress deeper, the challenge increases, requiring more strategic use of your character's unique skills—whether you are a warrior, rogue, or sorcerer.
