A useful beginner strategy is to master the timing of your attacks and jumps, and to pick up health-restoring items whenever possible. In the early part of a run, focus on learning enemy patterns and conserving health. During tense moments, such as boss fights, prioritize dodging attacks and striking when you see an opening.
