How to play
Final Fantasy VIII is a role-playing game where you control a party of characters through a narrative-driven world. Your primary objective is to explore towns, interact with non-player characters to advance the story, and engage in turn-based combat with enemies encountered on the field map or in random encounters. In battle, you select commands from a menu for each character, such as Attack, Magic, or using a special ability like Squall's Gunblade trigger. A key system is the Junction system, which allows you to link magic spells to your character's attributes (like Strength or Vitality) to significantly boost their stats. You draw magic from enemies or draw points on the map to stock spells. You can also summon powerful entities called Guardian Forces (GFs), which can be junctioned to characters to learn new abilities and unleash devastating attacks in battle. A useful early strategy is to focus on drawing 100 of each spell from enemies and draw points to maximize your junction bonuses, and to always have a GF junctioned to each active party member to learn abilities faster. The challenge rhythm involves managing your limited magic stocks, exploiting enemy weaknesses, and utilizing GF summons during tough boss fights. In the early game, focus on building a diverse magic library and learning GF abilities like Card Mod to convert unwanted cards into useful items. During tense moments, such as boss battles, carefully manage your health and use Limit Breaks, which are powerful character-specific attacks that become available when a character is near death.
