In Gun.Smoke, you control a lone bounty hunter on a mission to clean up the town by defeating the Wiley Brothers gang. The game is viewed from a top-down perspective, and you move your character through six stages filled with enemy bandits, cowboys, and obstacles. You can shoot in three directions: forward, diagonally left, and diagonally right, using the Famicom controller's buttons. Power-ups such as faster shooting, a spread shot, or a powerful bazooka can be collected by shooting floating balloons that appear. Your health is limited, and you lose a life if you are hit too many times or fall off your horse in certain sections. The key to success is constant movement to avoid enemy fire, strategic use of the three-way shot to cover angles, and prioritizing power-ups to increase your firepower. In tense moments, focus on dodging and using the environment for cover rather than rushing forward.
