Your goal is to guide Sonic and his friends through vibrant, high-speed platforming stages to defeat the evil Dr. Eggman. You run, jump, and spin through loops and obstacles, collecting rings for protection and extra lives. Focus on building momentum to traverse levels quickly, but be careful of enemies and bottomless pits. In the early stages, learn the layout and ring locations. The middle part of the game introduces special stages to collect Chaos Emeralds for a better ending. In tense moments, your ring count acts as a health buffer; if you get hit without rings, you lose a life. Use save states on the DS to practice difficult sections. A key beginner strategy is to hold down the jump button to curl into a ball in mid-air, making you a damaging projectile.
