The Virtual Boy is Nintendo’s most famous failure: a 1995 tabletop headset that rendered stereoscopic 3D in red monochrome, caused eye strain, and was discontinued within a year with barely two dozen games released.
The short library is worth looking at precisely because so few people saw it. Virtual Boy Wario Land is a genuinely good platformer, Jack Bros. is a cult favourite, and Mario’s Tennis shows what the depth effect was actually for.

The player renders a single eye view by default, which is how most people play these games today. Anaglyph modes are available in the settings if you have red-cyan glasses.
The hardware used red LED arrays rather than a colour screen, so red-on-black is the console’s native and only palette.
