Fatal Fury is a one-on-one fighting game where you select one of three martial artists - Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, or Joe Higashi - to battle through a series of opponents. The core objective is to defeat each opponent by depleting their health bar using punches, kicks, and special moves. The unique two-plane system allows you to jump between foreground and background lanes to dodge attacks and create strategic openings. Each character has distinctive special moves performed with specific joystick and button combinations, such as Terry's Power Wave and Burn Knuckle. Beginners should focus on mastering basic attacks and blocking while learning one reliable special move for each character. The game follows a tournament structure where you face increasingly difficult opponents, culminating in a battle against the final boss, Geese Howard. During tense moments, watch for opponent patterns and use lane switching to avoid powerful attacks while creating counterattack opportunities.
