In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, you begin by taking a personality quiz to determine which Pokémon you will become, then partner with another Pokémon to form an exploration team. Your core objective is to explore randomly generated dungeons, fight wild Pokémon, and complete missions to help the inhabitants of Pokémon Square. Moment-to-moment play involves navigating grid-based floors, engaging in turn-based combat where you and enemies take actions sequentially, and managing your inventory of items like Oran Berries and Reviver Seeds. A useful beginner strategy is to always carry a few Escape Orbs to leave dungeons in a pinch and to use moves with room-wide effects to handle groups of enemies. The challenge rhythm involves preparing carefully before each dungeon dive, as being defeated causes you to lose your money and some items. In the early game, focus on taking simple missions to build your team's level and recruit new Pokémon. During the middle of a run, pay close attention to your Belly gauge (hunger meter) and HP, and use status moves strategically. In tense moments, such as facing a boss or a Monster House, prioritize survival by using items and positioning your team members effectively.
