You play as Jennifer Simpson, a young girl trapped in a mansion with a deadly pursuer. The core objective is to explore the environment, solve puzzles, and survive encounters with the killer, Scissorman. Moment-to-moment play involves searching rooms for key items and clues while listening for audio cues that signal the antagonist's approach. There is no combat; instead, you must hide under beds or in cabinets and run to different rooms to escape. A useful beginner strategy is to save your progress frequently using typewriters found in safe rooms and to carefully manage your limited inventory. The challenge rhythm is tense and unpredictable, as Scissorman can appear suddenly. In the early game, focus on learning the mansion's layout and locating essential items. During the middle section, prioritize solving the main puzzles to progress the story. In tense moments, your focus should be on quick evasion and remembering safe hiding spots to avoid a game over.
