The core gameplay involves moving from left to right through urban and gothic environments, engaging in visceral hand-to-hand combat against hordes of zombies, vampires, and mutants. Basic movement is handled via the joystick, with dedicated buttons for jumping and attacking. Players can perform standard multi-hit combos by repeatedly pressing the attack button or execute powerful grab moves and throws by walking directly into enemies. For crowd control, players can trigger a screen-clearing special move by pressing attack and jump simultaneously, though this consumes a portion of their health. A unique mechanic in this game is the charge attack; by holding the attack button until the character flashes, players can unleash a devastating signature move. Success requires managing enemy positioning to avoid being flanked and timing jumps to dodge environmental hazards or aerial projectiles.
