The moment-to-moment play involves navigating side-scrolling environments, jumping between platforms, and shooting enemies. A key beginner strategy is to shoot walls and floors to uncover hidden passages containing vital power-ups. The challenge rhythm is a mix of exploration, combat with recurring enemies, and intense boss battles. In the early game, focus on mapping out the areas you can access and collecting Energy Tanks to increase your health. During the middle phase, use your acquired abilities like the Ice Beam and High-Jump Boots to reach previously inaccessible zones.
