Suikoden is a role-playing game where you control a protagonist leading a rebellion against a corrupt empire. Your primary goal is to recruit the 108 Stars of Destiny - a diverse cast of characters who will join your cause. Gameplay alternates between exploration, turn-based battles, and large-scale army conflicts. In towns and dungeons, you'll talk to NPCs, gather clues, and manage your growing headquarters. Combat uses a six-character party system with standard attacks, magic runes, and unique character abilities. Early gameplay focuses on building your core party and understanding the rune system. As you progress, you'll engage in strategic war battles where you command units in rock-paper-scissors style engagements against imperial forces. The middle game requires careful party management and exploration to find all recruitable characters. Tense moments occur during boss battles and war sequences where tactical decisions determine success. Focus on balancing your party with healers, magic users, and physical attackers, and always explore thoroughly to find hidden recruits.
