Contra: Hard Corps is a classic run-and-gun shooter where your objective is to survive through stages filled with enemy soldiers, aliens, and massive bosses. You control one of four elite soldiers, each with a unique default weapon and special ability. The core gameplay involves running, jumping, and shooting in all directions while dodging a relentless barrage of enemy fire. You collect power-ups to upgrade your main weapon, and a well-timed button press allows you to perform a powerful screen-clearing special attack, which is crucial for escaping tight situations. The game is notoriously difficult, so learning enemy patterns and mastering the dodge-roll maneuver is essential for survival. In the early stages, focus on memorizing enemy spawn points and conserving your special attack for boss fights. As you progress, the branching path system means your choices affect the levels and bosses you face, adding replay value. During tense moments, prioritize movement over offense, as staying alive is more important than dealing damage.
